11.06.2020. Brighter Day

The long awaited debut single by Hooson Maguire is finally here, and it's a belter! Written by the band prior to the lockdown but recorded remotely, and mixed and mastered by rock royalty - Mr John Verity. 

The tune is on all streaming platforms now, can be purchased at Band Camp - or check out the video here - Brighter Day Video.

09.06.2020. Man Who Sold The World

Today, Jamie's latest single, a cover of one of his very favourite songs, finally hits the streaming services. The singles release has been delayed by the lockdown but never mind - it's here now! 08.05.2020. New Attitude

"New Attitude," is out now! Hear the single on all streaming platforms and digital download sites worldwide. The single is already lined up for a lot of local airplay and has received very enthusiastic reviews so far.

Jamie's new single will be called New Attitude. It will be available on all good streaming platforms from 8th May 2020.  As the video is already ready, Jamie has made it available to all Patrons at his Patreon site. With the UK in lockdown mode, like all other professional musicians, Jamie has effectively no work and little income. He has therefore turned to Patreon. Click on the picture to hear more about it from Jamie.

At the end of April, Jamie will be playing some shows in Finland with the highly acclaimed tribute to David Bowie, Starman. The gigs will feature Bowie guitarist, Gerry Leonard as part of the band. The show is of the highest possible standard and Jamie, a huge Bowie fan, is thrilled to be a part of it.

This year at the UK Bass Show, Jamie will represent the biggest distributer of musical instruments in the country - John Hornby Skewes. He will be on hand to chat, demonstrate and discuss the Vintage, Fret-King, Danelectro, Bohemian and Italia ranges. Click the pic to the left for more info about the show.

As many of you will by now know, Jamie is a mobile recording enthusiast. Much of his recent output has been recorded on iPad and he has been adding videos to his YouTube channel recently sharing tips and knowledge to help others learn how to take advantage of this exciting new development in the recording world. In his latest video, Jamie demonstrates 5 free Apps recently released by the well respected Nembrini Audio - makers of top class desktop plugins that are now being made available on iOS. 02.01.2020.

The ever popular Paddy Maguire Band rebrands as Hooson Maguire this year, kicking off 2020 as they mean to go on - including a lot more original material in their live shows, with a view to recording in the near future.

When Jamie joined the band, it was a 3 piece which also consisted of Paddy Maguire and Sean Fitzpatrick. But Jenna Hooson Maguire was a regular guest with the band and proved so popular that, with her own band disbanding it made sense for her to join forces with Paddy. The band has evolved into something quite new now so, a rebrand seems sensible.

18.11.19.

The Sheffield Songwriters Alliance was established by Jamie Mallender, to bring together original musicians to perform gigs in the Sheffield area, for mutual benefit. Gigs would typically feature solo spots from each artist billed that evening, plus collaborations on each other’s material. Whilst it is fine for artists to include some cover tunes in their set, the main focus of The Alliance is to feature original music and to build an audience of people who want to hear exactly that.

Jamie would love to hear from local original artists who would be interested in performing and venues that might be interested in hosting such an event.

The first event will feature a solo set from Jamie, followed by Dan Burnett and then Tom Killner. The 3 of them will jam out some standards and covers together to close the show. This will take place at 9pm at The Harlequin on Nursery Street, Sheffield and is a free entry gig.

Jamie has a new tune out today and has this to say about it, "I've spoken at length before about how difficult it is to market my solo music, as it's kind of a genre hopping, eclectic bag of randomness. To some that's a good thing, to others it's not. It's just how it comes out of me naturally, I'm not making any effort to be that way. I really don't like music that's forced. With this difficulty in mind, I have to say that the blues market has been very good to me. Sure I get the odd blues anorak telling me I'm not blues and the blues police have never been my biggest fans - but the majority of the support I've had so far has definitely come from that market. So, as I'm playing The Great British Rhythm & Blues festival as a solo artist this time around, I've decided to release a blues track just ahead of the event.  I recorded this tune a few weeks ago. I have a few tunes now stacked up ready for release so it seemed the right time for this one to come out - featuring my Swear Box Cigar Box Guitar, handbuilt by Screaming Skull Guitars."

We are very excited to reveal the cover artwork and title for Jamie's forthcoming solo album, "It's All Good." The photograph is by Gary Barlow of JHS and it features The Octopussy (the one of a kind 8 string bass guitar converted from a 4 string Vintage V90 by Trevor Wilkinson and Mike Smith.)

The album will be available for digital download on 27th April 2019.

You can pre-order digital download of the album on iTunes from 6th April 2019. This will give you an instant download of track 5 - "Not Done Yet," ahead of official release.

CDBaby describes the album as, "An eclectic album of instant pop rock, catchy acoustic tunes, poignant lyrics, experimental moments and instrumental pieces."

The diary is now open. Following a jawdropping, showcase performace on Tuesday night, Jamie's exciting new 80's melodic hard rock cover band is taking bookings for 2019.
